my mama has been sharing her journey through cancer on carepages, a blog platform hosted by the hospital she’s been having treatment at. here is her latest post:
Easy Out
Posted 5 hours ago

Today is surgery day and we are headed to the hospital in couple of hours. Surgery is at St. Mary’s at 2:30 for about 2 hours; the cancer surgeon will do the mastectomy first and then the plastic surgeon comes in to do the temporary implant. I should be in recovery for about 2 hours and then an overnight stay or two depending on how I feel. I saw the plastic surgeon yesterday and everything seems in order. I really like both my surgeons. And again, with all that is going on with the health care issue, am grateful that I am not like so many who face this life changing event without any insurance. I cannot imagine!
Now, I have to tell you about the past couple of days. We have had an “issue” with one of our shower heads. When someone who I love very dearly tried to replace a shower head the whole pipe broke off (it was plastic, of course). For the last two days I have been wandering around Grandville looking for a tool that I was told is called an easy out. Some of the plastic was still threaded into the pipe in the wall and an easy out is the only way to get the stuff out of the pipe to repair the shower head. Wednesday night I bring something home from Home Depot and it’s not the right thing. I go to a couple of other places and finally, yesterday I find what I am looking for at Menards . Just prior to getting to Menards I find out from the plastic surgeon that the cancer surgeon may not be able to save the nipple :( There is quite a bit of breast tissue on the underside of the nipple that she is concerned about leaving. This is kind of disappointing news, but I think, “I can deal!” So back at Menards I find a plumbing guy and tell him what I am looking for. He says I have just the thing! Now to see the irony in my experience you will have to scroll through and find one particular picture that I have posted on this site. Sorry to make you do so, but it’s just too good to put it in writing. YOU JUST HAVE TO SEE THE PICTURE!!

what is in the human heart is true.

The age before the Age of Aquarius was the Age of Pisces. Since the earth is moving in retrograde motion, we have just left the Age of Pisces, which marked the years 1-2000 AD. This time coincides with the age of Christ and Christianity. Pisces is considered the last sign of the zodiac, a compendium of all the signs that came before it, from Aries to Aquarius. Pisces is the sign known for universal love, compassion, self-sacrifice, altruism, creativity, intuition and deep spirituality. Pisces know the truth of the universe but can’t quite say why they know it. It doesn’t matter, for Pisces know that “truth” is always in flux. To Pisces, what is in the human heart is true, for it is true to the soul. Pisces is an introspective sign. This Piscean mindset has been the way humanity has approached the world since we evolved and has colored everything that we have encountered during that period.

Early Christians used the symbol of the fish (symbol of Pisces) as a secret symbol of their faith. The emphasis on washing of the feet as a ritual signifying purification of the spirit ties into Pisces symbolism as well, for Pisces rules the feet. Pisces “carry” the cares of others and often have sore feet. Christ spoke of his role as servant to his flock, which is also a very Pisces notion. Pisces says, “I believe,” whereas Aquarius, the age we are in now, says, “Prove it to me scientifically.” Christ’s mother Mary embodied all the qualities represented by the Pisces polarity of Virgo, namely, modesty, commitment to service, and acceptance of what must not be changed. In Pisces, there is a strong need for seclusion, and Christianity puts value on retreats, convents, cloisters or spiritual pilgrimages. Aquarius puts emphasis on group activities and community, thus we have the Internet and the eye of the global village which we call television. Aquarius is a very social sign. Pisces is something of a “psychic sponge.” Pisces like people too, but need regular time to themselves to rinse away the everyday cares they have absorbed.

my feet are always dirty. i wear flip flops in the city and work at a dirty bar. i’ve started washing my feet every night before i go to bed. i think about jesus and my mom. i do it because it’s therapeutic and it connects me with my true double pisces self- a compassionate, overly-sensitive, ocean loving dreamer.  (via/inspiration)

Documentary film - YOUR HELP IS NEEDED!
PLEASE REBLOG. Thanks so much.
If you or someone you might know has access to video production gear in Los Angeles, please kindly read on.
I need some help, and I promise not to ask you for money. Myself and a few friends have been given a great opportunity to shoot a documentary for a non-profit organization called Giving Children Hope. The film will focus on a woman in Thailand named Kru Nam, who runs an orphanage for child victims of human trafficking (see photo above - that’s her with some of the children). She’s sort of the Harriet Tubman of the Burmese-Thai sexual slavery ring. She rescues children from brothels (many of whom have been kidnapped or sold by their parents) and spirits them away to safety at her orphanage. The documentary will tell Kru Nam’s story in the hopes of bringing awareness to her work and raising funds for Giving Children Hope, which is an organization that provides medical supplies to these children (and many other needy people throughout the world). So here’s where we need help. The budget for this documentary is $0. Not figuratively zero, but literally.. zero. We will be covering our own travel expenses and many additional costs related to the production of the documentary. But I’m turning to you in the hope that you might be able to help us find in-kind donations of production equipment (most importantly a CAMERA).We will need the equipment for approximately ten days, perhaps as early as next Friday, the 25th of September. We are experienced production folks so you can be assured the gear will be well cared for. We are looking for in-kind donations, though it’s possible we will be able to come up with a minimal payment if that’s the only option (this would come out of our own pockets, and we aren’t the richest, if you know what I mean). Please help if you can. Anyone who is able to loan equipment will be prominently thanked in the film. Please FORWARD this email to folks you know that may have connections to this equipment and who may feel like providing some tangible help to this great cause. I love you.The list of equipment we are looking for follows.SO MANY THANKS,MatthewSpecifically we are looking for:-An HD camera. We need a decent prosumer HD camera capable of shooting 24p, along the lines of a Canon XH-A1(s), Sony FX1000, or the Panasonic AG-HMC series. This is the obviously the most important piece of equipment we are seeking.-Sound equipment. We need a good shotgun mic and two lav mics.-Tripod-Batteries/tape stock or memory depending on what camera we get/any other accessories-Glidecam or other light camera stabilizer (This is a wishlist item, meaning that it’s not critical to our mission.)-35mm adapter such as the Letus, along with lenses. (This is also a wishlist item.)

Picture mail from haley! Her and her mom are running in the Race for the Cure on September 26 to help support breast cancer awareness. For those of you who don’t know, my mom has breast cancer so of course we will be walking in the race. I, however, will be pushing my mom in a wheelchair since she is having surgery the week before.
